The Ideal Korean Woman
I saved this picture a long time ago and forgot about it. I tried to find the article in which I found it, but I couldn't! If somebody is able to link back to it, please let me know.
This picture is apparently the ideal Korean woman. Several popular and beautiful Korean celebrities faces were analyzed and the best features were compiled together and enhanced to make this digital portrait.
My first initial reaction to this photo was that she doesn't look Korean, she looks caucasian! This is the eurocentricity of beauty. Asians seriously idolize a more westernized appearance. It all starts from the fair skin and large eyes, far from the common small and slanted Asian eyes. The one thing that seems to be different from western-ideals is that this woman has somewhat small lips. She doesn't have fake-looking plumped up lips like Megan Fox or Angelina Jolie. I guess a more doll-like appearance is idealized in Asian culture. Barbie had small lips... but Barbie is 50 years old. Nowadays those Bratz dolls are popular and they have HUGE lips!
What do you guys think of the "ideal Korean woman"? Is she really ideal?
***EDIT***
themagicchun found and sent me an article on this topic, but it's in Korean. The original article I read was in English though. But this link has all the photos of the Korean celebrity faces that were analyzed.

Well, I would be lying if I said I wouldn't be attracted to someone that looked like her. A girl that look like that would be attractive, but there are certainly other types and variations I would be attracted to as well.
I think the idea that having fair skin equates beauty is not necessarily a westernized beauty concept. All the Japanese, Korean, Chinese and even Thai magazines promote the fairness of the skin because the aristocrats back in the day were always kept out of the sun. It just means no manual labor or being out in the fields and they were deemed as being "more beautiful".
But honestly, not too crazy about THIS ideal korean woman. She's not interesting to look at. :p
Well, first I question if she is wearing make-up or not? Natural beauty is indeed rare with any female. Applying make-up brings her up from the level of pretty to beautiful or georgeous. Looks natural to me, but it's kind of hard to tell from a digital picture.
yes, not too interesting to look at. maybe for 5-10 seconds. the face is way too perfect that it's flawed.
she's beautiful, yeah, but she's not ideal. there's no such thing as ideal.
i found the original article, i think. its in korean? http://bbs1.tv.media.daum.net/gaia/do/talk/phoshop/read?&bbsId=A000009&articleId=263592&pageIndex=1&nil_no=27759
Umm I honestly don't care if she's Korean or not but if she was a real chick then damn she is super hot. Hell yeah she's definitely wife material. Of course I'm judging purely based on looks so her personality/attitude/speech etc. were not accounted for.
I was thinking she pretty much looks white, too.
I certainly don't think so. I don't think you can just throw all the best features into a blender like that. And who determines what are the "best" features. I still think Hyori is what every Korean girl should strive to be.
Also, i don't think it's a matter of trying to look Caucasian. It's just trying to set yourself apart from the pack. I noticed Westerners are trying to adopt Asian features because it's more exotic. I guess the grass is always greener...
What does this post have to do with nutrition ;).
Yea, she looks very much like a mixed Asian.
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.
@crushediamonds - Beauty has always been associated with wealth. Back in the day, it was attractive to have fair skin because it represented that you were indoors. Now that ppl are stuck in the office, a tan is a positive thing because it represents that you have the money to go vacationing.
I completely agree that Asians are fixated with the eurocentricity of beauty. I dont even want to know how often I hear girls talking about how they want to get eyelid surgery or a nosejob; both of which are means to make their physical characteristics look less Asian and more western.
she looks flawless!! i like the eyebrows, lips. the eyes..hum..if you notice most korean girls have small and single eyelid eyes...so i guess this is their ideal korean woman
Its very true. Asians have always liked a westernized appearance. A surprising number of their models in fashion magazines such as PINKY are half Asian, or not even Japanese.
Its not something that is too surprising.
Korean women in my opinion, are REALLY about becoming this "ideal image", and they get plastic surgery in order to do so.
There are other Asian girls who couldn't care less, because they don't have the fair skin color to begin with.
I remember you doing a featured post about yaeba.
I think that yaeba is cute in its own way, because it represents a human-like flaw or characteristic. I have to admit that something unique would be taken away from Asians as a whole if they did not have this flaw.
In my opinion, this flawless image is nice, but probably not what I would want in a woman anyway. The image seems too plain. I try to appreciate women for their flaws as well, and if there are none...then whats really wrong with her?
she looks so perfect that something looks wrong. lol
reminds me of korean actress Kim Tae Hee though...
@Iluvgillian - @Roadlesstaken - I agree that personality/speech/attitude play a large part in attractiveness! No matter how good-looking a man is, if he is a scumbag then I will be zero percent attracted to him. More like disgusted!
@themagicchun - Thanks for finding that link! You're very resourceful! It has all the pictures of the celebrity faces that were analyzed. The original article that I read was in English tho. I can't read Korean at all~
@coolmonkey - omg I love Hyori. I think she's the hottest woman in the world! She's the entire package~ And of course real -- not just digital art!
@kachino - Okay momo. i'm going to start writing "what does this have to do with sports?" on all your non-sports posts from now on!!!!!!! lol
@Gerald_Washington - I like your insight!! You seem like someone that really looks deep into a person.
@DoRi_dOrI - I bet Kim Tae Hee was probably one of the actresses analyzed to create this photo!
@i_Nutrition - yep I totally agree with you. This is why we cannot say if she's a 'perfect' woman because all we see is a picture =.= I didn't think of this the first time I saw the pic but the pic reminds me of the lead girl in 'The Spirits Within'
@i_Nutrition - LOL, that would be nice! 2 free credits for me ;)
Hmm make the eyes slightly smaller and the nose slightly bigger, than maybe she will look like a human and not a doll, haha. I mean the first think I notice is that her eyes are way too large, even for the "large eyes are pretty" crowd, haha. And then the roundness of her face and eyes make her small pointyish nose look a bit too small. I think there are much prettier REAL Korean girls. :)
There is no such thing as the perfect beautiful person, Korean or otherwise. Personally, I think you are very pretty and should be very ppleased with who and what you are. We all strive for perfection, but few ever reach it!
she's def. cute.
but....
she doesn't look asian!
its kind of scary if you stare into her eyes............... :D
All those mishmashed 'ideal' faces look so boring...
Pop sensation star BoA! that my idea korean LOL.Or the girls found in korean dramas LOL. Asians i dont really care if its Nihon, China, or Korea I'm just simply attracted to them and their traditional cultures
You know, it's quite funny, I watch a lot of korean movies and drama and I think they're all beautiful, I think this one is too pretty. It's not normal to be too pretty. And also, in the "Western" culture, it's seems that everyone just wants to be more tan. All my Caucasian friends are jealous that I have a natural tan and don't have to pay for those fake and bake tans.
But, yeah, this Ideal korean woman, I'm not liking her too much, indeed she looks like a white girl with black hair. I feel that koreans should accept their Asian looks, it's what makes them unique from the world :) atleast the non-asian world.
